PREWAR LIONEL 238 STREAMLINED LOCOMOTIVE WITH 2225W WHISTLING TENDER

Lionel offered the 238, and the e unit equipped 238E, from 1936 - 1940.   Starting in 1939, the e unit was considered standard equipment, and the "E" was dropped from the number.   It is based on the specially shrouded Pennsylvania streamlined K4 Pacifics of the era.

This nice example is an e unit equipped Type II, with gloss black paint.  This very nice example is a very strong, fast runner.  The E-unit was been rebuilt and works flawlessly.   The whistle has a new wire from the pickup, and blows loud.   The tender's operating box coupler works well.      The locomotive has some very minor paint touch ups along the lower edge, the tender has more extensive touch ups.
