PREWAR LIONEL 2810 "DEEP DISH" DERRICK CRANE CAR

 

Lionel offered the 2810 only from 1938 - 1942  

 

This nice example is the very sought after Type III from 1941 - 1942, with black journal boxes, simulated knuckle couplers, and a "Deep Dish" frame.  It goes with the also highly desirable late 2800 series cars, including the heat stamped 2814 box car, 2814R refrigerator car, and 2816 hopper. 

 

This very nice example is complete and appears to be all original, with the exception of the cab rotation knob, which should be smaller.  I do not know if it has been re-geared, but all of the gears work well, including the cab rotator, the boom elevator, and the hook retractor.  There is a knot in the hook string.  The track clamp is there, as is the clip that holds the track clamp up.  There is no rust that I see.  I would rate it a solid VG.
